Hello! My name is Olivia Fitchett, a proud member of Sigma Kappa! My journey in Sigma Kappa started in fall of 2011 where I went through recruitment as a freshman. I was encouraged by my cousin, a notable member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity to go through recruitment. I cannot suggest the moment I knew I was a Sigma Kappa. Maybe it was when I talked to the girls in recruitment, could have been when I grounded myself in my faith and values years back, or when I learned valuable lessons as a toddler. My Sigma Kappa journey began before I wore Greek letters…
“Sigma Kappa is not something you become, it’s something you’ve always been”, is what I have been told.
The truth in that statement resonates with me in a powerful way. Since joining Sigma Kappa I have gained more than I could ever repay this amazing organization back. I have had the opportunity to travel across the country to various leadership conferences and seminars including Las Vegas, Chicago and other cool places! I have been given responsibility while holding many positions within the organization all while hanging out with my best friends. Sigma Kappa has given me the drive scholastically to constantly be excelling in school and the passion to be even more involved in my church and community. Because of my time in Sigma Kappa, I feel very prepared to take on the world with confidence and a strong identity.
Our sisterhood is our heartbeat! It is such a breath of fresh air knowing your sisters are behind you in every choice you make and expect the best out of you. Getting to have these girls by my side is the best decision I could have made for myself. God has given me so many friendships that will last a lifetime. I am beyond ecstatic to reunite with these inspiring women every day I can. I know in my heart I will always have a passion for Sigma Kappa and be giving back- not four years, for LIFE!
Panhellenic Council members, recruitment counselors, and other sorority women in our Greek community will be blogging throughout the summer months to help potential members prepare for recruitment.
