Because I am a sister, I strive to be a leader. Because I am a sister, I have a family and a group of fabulous women by my side for life. Because I am a sister, I will grow to be even more phenomenal each and everyday. Because I am a sister, I know I'm capable of changing the world.
Joining a sorority has helped me become a stronger, more independent woman, and it's all thanks to the women that I have in my corner, If I didn't have them, I wouldn't be as grounded in school and in my friendships. I've learned the value of sisterhood, loyalty, friendship, love and strength through my relationships that I have with them.
I chose to join a sorority soley for the resume building and the leadership opportunities, but I remained a sorority woman because of the support system that I've gained through my organization. Being in charge of recruitment this year has taught me to reach out to women who might be seeking the same things I did when I was in their shoes.
Going Greek is half the battle, because all of the Panhellenic organizations are in it for the same cause. It's a movement, a staement, to go Greek. During recruitment, just breathe, be yourself, and keep an open mind. I promise you'll be great.
HEY! I am Katherine Dauby the Vice President of Membership Recruitment for Alpha Phi and a Nursing Major at IU Southeast. All through high school I was a part of the tennis team and the national art honor society, where I had a constant support system behind me. Coming into college, I felt alone not being a part of something. A friend of mine that was in Alpha Phi and convinced me to go Greek. I never imagined joining Greek life coming to college because of the stereotypical title it is given, but it has been the most rewarding experience in my life. As I stepped in to Alpha Phis recruiting room in the fall of 2013, I knew this chapter was where I belonged and my dream was to become a leader in the recruitment process in my future years as an Alpha Phi. I have never regretted my decision of going thorough fall recruitment because you truly do find girls that will support you through anything and constantly push you to be the best you can be.
Becoming an Alpha Phi has been one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of my life, my favorite recruitment memory has been experiencing recruitment as the VPMR on the Alpha Phi side. Seeing all of our new sisters, so excited they have found their new home and the love they already have for this chapter is unexplainable, it is all so rewarding after our hard work, late nights, tears, and laughter, it reminds me of why I love Alpha Phi and Greek Life so much.
I could never thank Greek Life enough for all it has taught me these past few years at IU Southeast. The most rewarding skills it has taught me are leadership, time management and dedication. I was always a leader in high school but never put the skills into much action, when I applied for the position of Vice President of Membership Recruitment, I knew it would push my leadership skills even more and I was willing to take that chance to better myself and show my love for recruitment. Greek Life has taught me a lot about time management. I have always been able to manage my time well but with my vice president position, full time nursing student and work, time management has become one of the most important things in my college career. Everyone will tell you going through recruitment that you get out what you put into the chapter, this may sound silly now but it is so true!
Besides gaining amazing skills I will be able to use in my future career and life, I have gained the friendships of some of the most amazing women I have ever met. If I had not gone through recruitment, I probably would not have met my best friends. Becoming close with my sisters through philanthropy, sisterhood events, scholarship, campus involvement, and volunteering in our community, has showed me the importance in life. Volunteering is one of the most important things we focus on in our chapter. Our international philanthropy that all Alpha Phi chapters help raise money for is Women’s Heart Health. Heart health is the number one killer in both men and women, and we believe every little thing can help change this statistic! The Alpha Phi chapter at IU Southeast, host two main events for our philanthropy, they are the Move Your Phi’t Heart walk every fall and the Red Dress Gala each spring. This past year our chapter raised a total of $10,000 for heart health! This is a huge amount for such a small campus! Alpha Phi is the only international sorority on the IU Southeast campus where each sister strives to succeed in their college life while having fun, wearing our letters with pride with our sisters by our sides.
During the greatest times of my life and at my worst, my sisters have given me strength and love no matter the situation. With the love from my sisters and Alpha Phi, my life has forever changed for the better. As my career as an active Alpha Phi is quickly coming to an end, I can honestly say that the best years fly by and Greek Life is not for four years but for life.

Vice President of Membership Recruitment
Hi! I’m Justice Burda, Vice President of New Member Education for Sigma Kappa here at IUS!
When I first came to college, I knew I wanted to be a part of Greek life. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself, to have a “home away from home”, and to be a part of a sisterhood that would support me through my college journey. Going through recruitment I saw the dedication to promoting the sorority experience from all the chapters on campus.
But I gained so much more than what I had expected when I joined Sigma Kappa. I am a part of a sisterhood bound together by a unique bond. Sigma Kappa has encouraged me to become the best version of myself. As Vice President of New Member Education I have the opportunity to share Sigma Kappa’s story, values, and mission. I have the chance to empower other women to be bold leaders in their lives. It is truly inspiring to be part of an organization that encourages women to be brave and passionate in their lives. Being a part of this sisterhood gives me the courage to become the person I’ve always wanted to be. My sisters are my allies, my cheerleaders, my mentors, and most importantly my closest friends.
Being a part of Sigma Kappa has motivated me to be a leader in every aspect of my life. The things I’ve learned as a member of a Greek organization will stay with me forever. As a member of Panhellenic, I have seen the impact sororities can make on young women’s lives. The value of the sorority experience is priceless. I honestly can’t imagine what my college experience would have been like without joining a sorority. In my sorority, I have found a place that motivates me to be the best sister, friend, student, and leader I can be. Going Greek will open many doors of opportunity for you. You will find your sisters, your home, and yourself.
Go Greek my ladies!!
